Exactly as the name suggests, wound sponges are designed for absorbing seeping or excruence of blood, pus or fluids. They're typically applied directly to a wound and may be held in place with gauze or bandages.

Sponges are often also used to apply ointments, unguents or creams designed for skin healing or maintenance, and come in a variety of sizes.
